Mental Health Action Week - Previous Years

Mental Health Action Week is the Mental Health Foundation's annual awareness-raising week, which has been running since the 1950s and takes place in the Spring. We use the diary event to raise awareness of mental health issues on national scale.

2004

For Mental Health Action Week 2004 we carried out a survey to find out how the UK population copes with low mood and what they do to beat it. The results show striking differences according to geographical location and gender.

The research is a reminder that everyone needs to look after their mental health, and possessing positive and helpful ways of coping with low mood is an important part of this. Find out more.

2003

For Mental Health Action Week 2004, we carried out a survey about work-life balance. From this, we put together an information sheet, and launched a report:

Whose life is it anyway?
Whose life is it anyway? - [208 KB] A report on the effects of a poor work-life balance on mental health, April 2003.

2002

For Mental Health Action Week 2002 we carried out a survey of over 400 people with personal experience of mental health problems. They told us about seeking work, the attitudes of colleagues, support available within the workplace, the impact of work on mental health and the way in which people left or lost jobs. From this we launched a report:

Out at work
Out at work - [291 KB] A survey of the experiences of people with mental health problems within the workplace, April 2002.

2001

For Mental Health Action Week 2001 we carried out a survey about friendship and mental health. We wanted to look at the effects and impacts of mental health problems on friendships, looking both at the support provided by friends but also at the ways in which friends reacted to mental health problems. From this, we launched a report:

Is anybody there?

2000

For Mental Health Action Week 2000 we carried out a survey about people's experiences of stigma and discrimination in relation to mental health issues, along with their views on how these could be tackled. From this we launched a report:

Pull yourself Together
