Help us prevent mental illness turning into a tragedy
A gift of £20 can help us identify and reach families who need our help. For families who are struggling with the stigma and secrecy of mental illness, our information packs are a lifeline.
The packs can help families to understand what their loved ones are going through and tell people where to go for help.
Just knowing they are not alone can prevent someone from taking their own life.
Jamie's story
“Dad and I were very close. He worked hard, but always made time to take me fishing or play football with me. I had no idea he was so unhappy. He seemed so strong.
I was nine when it happened. I’d been at a sleepover and I still remember the terrible atmosphere in the house when I walked in.
My mum told me dad had taken a lot of tablets in the night to try and kill himself.
He pulled through, but it was as if the ground had opened up under me. He’d never been anything but a tower of strength, my protection against the world, my daddy.
I found there were things inside his head he couldn’t tell me about, and he couldn’t bear to live with. When I went back to school I overheard some friends talking. It hurt so much. They said my dad, my wonderful dad, was crazy.” – Jamie, 12
