News Release, 15 August 2005
The Mental Health Foundation today launches a new grants programme, to fund innovative research into the care and treatment of mental illness, and mental health promotion. The two-year, £300,000 programme will fund grants available to individuals, non-profit making organisations and others working in and around the mental health research field.
Rowan Myron, Grants Manager at the Mental Health Foundation, says:
“Through giving grants to organisations and individuals, including service users, we’ll gain new perspectives from those on ground level. We’ll benefit from the expertise of others and combine that with our strengths to influence policy, raise awareness and help tackle the stigma attached to mental illness.”
Andrew McCulloch, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation, says:
“We’re very excited to be starting the grants programme. We have chosen to prioritise innovative research as we believe that this will provide a much-needed boost to the field of mental health research. The treatment and care of people with mental health problems, and our whole approach to mental health and wellbeing, are in a state of transition at the beginning of the 21st Century. New ideas and fresh perspectives are called for, and should benefit the whole mental health field, in the long run.”
Grant proposals will be required to feature one of the following themes:
- Innovation
- Parenting / Child-Adolescent mental health
- Transitions through the lifespan
The grant programme will fund three large grants to the value of £50,000. The remaining monies will be split between a range of mid-size grants (£10,000-20,000) and a number of smaller grants (up to £3,000 each).
Please note: the grant programme is now closed.
