The Mental Health Foundation, in association with The London Development Centre has launched a toolkit to support for commissioners, voluntary and statutory providers and service users, to modernise their day services to promote increased opportunities for social inclusion. Redesigning Mental Health Day Services - A Modernisation Toolkit for London explains the changing role for day services and how modernisation can be achieved.
Andrew McCulloch, Chief Executive of the Mental Health Foundation said,
“Service users place a high value on having something meaningful to do during the day yet services are a relatively neglected part of mental health services. They vary enormously from well-designed resource centres and clubhouses to the couch potato model.
“The goal for modernised day services is to provide support and help with functioning and to facilitate access to employment and other meaningful daytime activity, with social inclusion the key aim. It is possible to shape services that offer meaningful activity and can genuinely enhance the quality of people lives.”
