Jeremy Paxman to host publication launch of The Fundamental Facts

News Release, 24 January 2007

On 25 January, journalist Jeremy Paxman will host the launch of The Fundamental Facts, a new publication from the Mental Health Foundation. Indispensable to the mental health and social care sectors, the publication collates the latest facts and figures on topics including the prevalence of mental health problems, treatment and care, and the cost of mental ill health.

Jeremy Paxman, said:

“The good news is that mental health is receiving more media attention than it did. The bad news is that the reporting isn’t always accurate. This resource is a valuable tool for all journalists.

David Brindle, Public Services Editor at the Guardian newspaper, said:

“Mental health is not nearly as well understood as others areas of health. We are not giving mental health the attention demanded by its impact on society. We need to understand the factors that promote mental health and support the recovery of people with mental health problems. The Fundamental Facts will help contribute to that understanding.”

The Fundamental Facts is a quick and accessible reference tool available from the Mental Health Foundation, priced £30. To order a copy, telephone 020 7803 1101 or complete the online order form
