Due to its popularity, the Mental Health Foundation is again offering places on a ten-day trek through the Peruvian mountains – this time in March 2009. The event begins in the ancient city of Cusco, former capital of the sun-worshipping Inca Empire and passes through green valleys and high mountain passes, before arriving at the World Heritage site of Machu Picchu.
Anyone can take part and the charity provides a personal training plan to help participants get in shape for the trip.
Celia Richardson, Director of Fundraising for the Mental Health Foundation, said: “Every year we are inundated with applications from people who want to go on the Peru Trek – it’s by far one of our most popular challenge events. There is always a really good mix of people who go, all of whom have their own reasons for wanting to do the trek and raise money for a mental health charity.”
The ten-day trip takes place from 21 – 30 March 2009. Participants are required to pay a registration fee of £349 and raise a minimum fee of £2850 in sponsorship money. All travel, accommodation, refreshments, guides and medical support are included.
