News Release: 6 February 2008
The Mental Health Foundation is offering you the chance to run sections of the Olympics marathon route this summer. The charity has limited places available for the brand new London 10,000 event being launched by BUPA in May, which includes parts of the route to be used during the games in 2012.
The 10 kilometre run is open to anyone, from beginners to experienced athletes. Runners will get the chance to take in the sights of central London, as the route travels along the banks of the Thames, through the City and Trafalgar Square before finishing outside Buckingham Palace.
They might even bump into the charity’s Chief Executive on the way round. Dr Andrew McCulloch, who also took part in the 2007 Great North Run, said:
“I’d really recommend taking part in this event – especially for such a good cause! Running is a great form of exercise, which research shows to be one of the best ways to look after our mental health. Anyone running for the Mental Health Foundation will be supporting the 1 in 4 people who suffer from mental health problems, their families and friends.”
The event takes place on the 26th May 2008. Participants are asked to pay a registration fee of £25 and raise a minimum of £475 in sponsorship. The charity will provide tips on how to raise the money. For a free information pack about running the BUPA 10,000 call 020 7803 1125.
